Turn Flowerpots Into Tables
Garden furniture has to be tough and durable, as it is exposed to the elements all year round, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.
Plastic flowerpots or fibreglass planters can be painted and used to create colourful outdoor side tables.
To create a shapely side table, join two pots of the same size at the base using a cuphead bolt, then add a pizza tray, also called a crisper, as a top.
Choose shallow pots for a low table you can use while seated, and higher pots for a taller table.
The tables are lightweight so they can be moved to where you need them or tucked away when not in use.
Step 1. Apply Paint
Wash the pots with warm, soapy water to remove all dirt, dust and grease, then leave them to dry. Paint the pots, working in a well-ventilated area on a drop sheet. Apply two coats, holding the can about 300mm from the surface and spraying lightly in a side-to-side motion.
Step 2. Drill Holes
Leave the pots to dry, then invert them on a flat working surface to drill a hole in the base of each pot using an 8mm twist bit. Drill holes through offcuts of 45 x 45mm timber, matching the holes so they line up when the pots are stacked on top of each other.
Step 3. Join pots
Invert one pot and position the other the right way up on the base. Position the timber block in the pot base and line up the drilled holes, threading the cuphead bolt through. Turn over and secure the other block using the supplied washer and nut. Add the top.
