In this quick video, we show you how to turn a smartphone into a lantern. All you need is a smartphone with a flashlight and a bottle of water.
The LED flashlight feature on smartphones makes it easy to find your way in the dark, especially during a power failure or when you can’t find a light switch.
However, the flashlight is normally directional, meaning you need to point it at whatever you want to illuminate. This makes it less useful for illuminating a whole room at once.
To overcome this problem, simply lay the smartphone down with the flashlight facing upwards, then place a full bottle of water on top.
The water in the bottle magnifies and disperses the light in all directions, creating a soft glow that can illuminate a whole room.
You would be surprised at the amount of light this handy trick creates, and it’s perfect for situations where a soft, multidirectional glow is preferred over a bright beam of light.
Try it next time you have a power failure. Plus, it’s a great trick for camping trips too!
